We ended up with five little peachicks out of 21 eggs, a perfect illustration of why it is wise NOT to count your chicks before they're hatched!
We do have about 25 more eggs to incubate, but he will probably be more realistic about his financial gains this time. I read it is easy to tell the sex of new peachicks by their back coloring. Light colored backs indicate peahens and dark backs indicate peacocks. I think it might be fairly easy to tell the difference just by facial features too. The light chicks look a little more delicate and feminine. If all indications are correct, we have two of each, plus one pure white! I am hoping the white chick will be a male. It acts like a male, a bit cocky and it is a little aggressive. I plan to keep the white one, just because I think the white peacocks are beautiful. Tomorrow the hatchlings will move from the library to the barn. They are beginning to be a bit messy and they are smelling like they need to be in a barn, not the house. I may check with the local feed store, too. They have pens where they sell birds and small animals.
I am excited about my latest development in painting. A local business woman/friend saw my paintings on this blog and asked if she could hang some of my paintings in her business and help me sell them! I told her I would be painting a lot more if I knew they didn't all have to find a place on my walls! I've never sold a painting. I will need to research setting a price, maybe the price of the canvas and estimated paint cost times two or three or more to account for the hours of work? There must be some formula. I am clueless! But I am SO excited!
